T-7. Confederate Currency. 1861 $100. PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.No. 25338. Plate C. Blank back. An important Confederate offering, being not only a scarce note in its own right but also the finest graded by PMG. Lithographed by Hoyer & Ludwig in Richmond, these were signed by representatives for the Register and Treasurer. Ceres, the Roman goddess of corn and harvest, and her daughter Prosperina are depicted in a vignette at center while a smaller portrait of George Washington appears at the lower left. This note possesses four full and clear borders, sharp ink signatures and incredibly fresh and white paper. Researching the records, we were able to locate one graded by PCGS Currency as 64 PPQ, but nothing above that has been found. While we have sold numerous examples of this note, nearly all have been in the VF to AU range. An opportunity to acquire what is likely the finest-known example of this early issue is most significant, and one serious collectors of Confederate currency should take advantage of. PMG Pop 1/None Finer. From the Mid-Continent Collection.
