New York, New York. Merchants Bank in the City of New York. 1860s $2. PMG Very Fine 30.G132a. Red tinted Lymens Protection type and dated Nov 1, 1862. Male portrait slightly left of center with the State emblem at center left. Evenly bisected segments were used on the $2, while other denominations employed segments of varying ratios. This was done to prevent alteration to the denomination. Printed on paper watermarked MERCHANTS BANK. The words "Patent Applied For" are very faintly seen printed vertically, near the lower margin at center. Incredible style and execution and a real beauty to behold. This example is fully framed, brilliantly colored and seen with just moderate handling.
