CC-62. Continental Currency. February 26, 1777. $30. PCGS Banknote Gem Uncirculated 66 PPQ.No. 9450. Signed by S. Coale and R. Johnson. Printed by Hall and Sellers. This was the highest denomination authorized by the February 26, 1777 Resolution which was made in Baltimore as Philadelphia was briefly occupied by the British. The emblem of a wreath on a tomb, with "SI RECTE FACIES" (If you act righteously, you will be honored after death) above is sharp and clear, as are all other elements of this top-grade note. Two other emblems appear on the back as opposed to the usual nature prints found on the back of most other Continentals. As one would expect at this grade level, the note is beautifully centered with broad and even margins all around. The top grade shown on the PMG Census is 65 EPQ. Like many Continentals, there is occasionally some inconsistency interpreting the serial numbers, and this note was last sold in a 66 PPQ PCGS Currency holder with serial number 9458 in September 2015. It now resides in a PCGS Banknote holder, also 66 PPQ but with serial number 9450. PCGS Banknote Pop 1/None Finer. From the Mid-Continent Collection.
