PA-213a. Pennsylvania. April 10, 1777. 1 Shilling. PCGS Banknote Gem Uncirculated 65 PPQ.No. 9782. Signed by J. Davidson. Printed by John Dunlap, Philadelphia, 1777. Black ink variety. Printed on a larger horizontal format than the smaller change notes, this One Shilling note from the April 1777 issue is the only gem example graded to date by either of the major services; PMGs closest contender being a 63 EPQ and PCGSs closest being an AU-55! Sporting a full sheet edge at the top, sharp and clear red signature and near perfect face-to-back registration, it is far and away the finest example known. In our opinion, it would face up well even in a holder a point higher. Ex. Eric P. Newman Collection. PCGS Banknote Pop 1/None Finer. From the Mid-Continent Collection.
