1836 Capped Bust Half Dime. LM-2. Rarity-3. Small 5 C. MS-66 (PCGS).Similar in appearance to the other high grade Capped Bust half dimes from the Millholland cabinet, this Gem 1836 exhibits mottled olive and reddish-russet obverse toning to otherwise light pewter-gray surfaces. It is also satiny in finish with a crisp strike and silky smooth appearance. While "a number of high grade examples of this die marriage have been identified" (per Logan and McCloskey, 1998), few that your cataloger (JLA) has handled over the years approach Superb Gem Mint State as readily as the offered coin. A noteworthy find for the discerning numismatist, be they a high grade type collector or advanced early half dime variety enthusiast.PCGS# 4288.PCGS Population (all die marriages of the Small 5 C. variety): 3; 6 finer (MS-66+ finest). From the Collection of James Allaire Millholland, 1842-1911.
