Martins outstanding reference <em>French Coinage Specifically for Colonial America</em> (2015), in which the author states:<p><em>"These coins [cast copy 12 and 6 deniers] are clearly made by the same hand, and seem to be relatively modern. They are not deceptive. In addition to being cast, they exhibit hollowness of the letters, and an odd outline appearance to the busts. Reverse </em>difference<em> are omitted in both denominations. Supporting the theory that these coins were made for collectors, they do not appear to have circulated; rather, legend weakness seems to be from shallowly cut molds made to mimic circulation. In both cases, these copies are considerably lighter in weight than their genuine counterparts."</em><p>This piece exhibits dominant medium brown patina, the obverse border with enhancing steel-olive color. Swaths of steel-gray on the reverse are associated with pronounced roughness, as made. A few speckles of ancient verdigris on the latter side are noted.Collector envelope included.
