1791 Washington Large Eagle Cent. Musante GW-15, Baker-15, W-10610. Lettered Edge. MS-62 BN (PCGS).Handsome satin surfaces exhibit glints of vivid peripheral brick-red to otherwise dominant olive-brown color. The strike is impressively sharp overall with the top of Washingtons head bold and showing partial delineation between the hair strands. A tiny reverse spot in the field above the eagles right leg is noted, as is some light carbon here and there that further explains the MS-62 numeric grade from PCGS. This popular type was produced in England as part of a bid to secure a coinage contract from the United States Congress. While many examples that were shipped to America eventually found their way into circulation, many high grade examples such as this were preserved by collectors and others in England.PCGS# 702.Acquired from Stacks, date not recorded.
