1787 Massachusetts Half Cent. Ryder 4-C, W-5940. Rarity-2. AU-53 (PCGS).This is an endearing piece, the surfaces satiny and exhibiting blushes of steel-olive to dominant rose-brown color. The detail is a bit light in isolated peripheral areas, due somewhat to centering issues, but the focal features are bold with just a trace of high point rub. Both sides are smooth in hand with no marks or other blemishes of note. An excellent type candidate from the first year of the brief Massachusetts copper series.PCGS# 296. NGC ID: 2B22.
