1773 Virginia Halfpenny. Newman 3-F, W-1455. Rarity-4. No Period After GEORGIVS, 7 Harp Strings. MS-64 BN (PCGS).An outstanding Virginia halfpenny, sharply struck and very well preserved with full prooflike luster and brilliant silvery-blue overtones on light olive-brown surfaces. No contact marks of any consequence and just a few trivial spots. A glass will reveal some extremely faint hairlines in the fields that are perhaps the only thing holding this coin back from a Gem grade, although it was previously graded NGC MS-65 Brown. The die variety can be quickly identified by the repunched 1 in the date. Overall a superior example of this scarce variety and less common No Period type with exceptional sharpness and eye appeal.PCGS# 913396.From the Sydney F. Martin Collection.
