Obverse: "VIVA LA REPUBLICA DE CENTRO-AMERICA" around a wreath enclosing the Arms of the Republic; Reverse: "DIOS UNION LIBERTAD/GUATEMALA 1890 around central legend, "PACTO DE UNION/ 15/ DE OCTUBRE/ DE/ 1889/ Loor al Patriotismo". This <strong>RARE </strong>medal struck in silver commemorates the short-lived Republic of Central America of 1896-1898, which Guatemala did not ultimately join and which collapsed almost immediately. The surfaces exhibit a nice deep gray tone with some flashy brilliance hidden in the fields.
