CILICIA. Kelenderis. AR Stater (10.66 gms), ca. 425-400 B.C. NGC Ch EF, Strike: 3/5 Surface: 3/5. Brushed. SNG BN-75. Obverse: Nude youth, holding whip, dismounting from horse rearing right; Reverse: Goat kneeling left, head turned right; legend above. This lovely Stater displays a bold and expressive obverse with spots of vibrant iridescent toning. While the reverse is more weakly struck by comparison, both sides retain abundant underlying luster and a pleasing light amber tone. While NGC has chosen to note brushing, a few faint hairlines on the surfaces are the only detectable traces of this. A wonderful example of the type. Ex: Stacks Bowers Baltimore Auction (10/2014), Lot # 196 (with ticket).
