PERU. Simon Bolivar/Peru is Restored Gold Medal, 1824. Lima Mint. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, AU Details. Fonrobert-9178. Weight: 14.17 gms. By A. Davalos. Commemorating the restoration of Peru in Ayacucho. Obverse: Uniformed bust of Bolivar right; Reverse: Coat-of-arms of Peru below garlanded wreath. Offered somewhat frequently in silver composition, this medal is quite SCARCE in gold, as we were only able to find one other example in gold having been traded in recent years. Despite the evidence of cleaning, this example has strong details and avoids any ugly defacing, with light wispiness being the only noted fault. A wonderful medal that should find a prominent place in any collection of Latin American medals.
