ROMAN REPUBLIC. Q. Pomponius Musa. AR Denarius (3.93 gms), Rome Mint, 56 B.C. NGC EF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 4/5. Cr-410/1; Syd-810. Obverse: Diademed head of Apollo right; Reverse: Hercules Musagetes, Conductor of the Muses, standing right, wearing lion skin and playing lyre; club to right. Presenting Hercules as the Conductor of the Muses, this type serves as an undoubted must for any Pomponius Musa series of Denarii which were designed as a visual pun upon the name of the moneyer. Pleasingly toned and fairly well centered.
