BOLIVIA. Cob 8 Reales, 1628-P. Potosi Mint; Assayer Pedro Martin de Palencia (P). Philip IV. PCGS VF-35.KM-19A; Cal-Type-327. Weight: 26.90 gms. A handsomely toned cob struck on a rather thick flan. The obverse clearly displays the mintmark and denomination on either side of the well-presented Habsburg shield. While the assayers mark is unfortunately obscured, the final digits of the date appear on the reverse, allowing for only two possible assayers. We have made our determination based on studying the style of the lions, which closely matches other issues of the assayer Palencia from the same year. This enticing piece is sure to please the fortunate collector who acquires it.To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click here. From the Pat Johnson Collection.
