BOLIVIA. Duo of Cob 4 Reales (2 Pieces), (ca. 1618-24)-P. Potosi Mint; Assayer Juan Jimenez de Tapia (T). Both PCGS Certified.KM-9; Cal-Type-149 (both coins). A choice pair of Potosi cobs. Although neither piece can be definitively ascribed to a particular date, each one presents tantalizing clues. The first of the two exhibits the kings ordinal, which, coupled with the assayers initial, indicate a date range of 1618-21. The second coin shows a partial date which, taking into consideration the style of the shield and cross, indicates the coin was struck under Philip IV between 1621 and 1624. Both pieces offer attractive patina and abundant eye appeal.
1) Philip III. PCGS VF-25. Weight: 13.00 gms. Variety with castles and lions transposed. Ex: Camino Real Treasure Find.
2) Philip IV.
