Fr. 1167. 1907 $10 Gold Certificate. PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ. This 1907 $10 Gold Certificate has the lowest serial number available to collectors for this Vernon - Treat signature combination. It is the second lowest serial number note known, however the lowest (serial number 6) is permanently entombed in the Smithsonian. This note was once part of the fabled collection of Albert A. Grinnell, having sold in Barney Bluestones March 10th, 1945 auction for $30 (triple face value), which is equivalent to about $140 today. This near-Gem example boasts superb eye appeal. The gold overprints are dark, and contrast nicely against bright paper and jet black design details. The light rose tint remains visible on the face. The all important design on the reverse has not oxidized, but blazes through the third party holder in dark orange ink. An opportunity not to be missed, as it may be sometime before this note resurfaces publicly.
