1803 Draped Bust Silver Dollar. BB-255, B-6. Rarity-2. Large 3. AU-55 (NGC). Warmly and evenly patinated rose-gray surfaces with iridescent undertones of reddish-apricot and golden-blue. Much luster remains, the detail also universally bold from a well executed strike. 1803 is the final year that these large Draped Bust dollars were produced. Although a trickle of dollars continued to emerge from the Mint in 1804 and 1805, these were all believed to be dated 1803. On the Large 3 obverse used for the BB-255 variety, offered here, the 3 is repunched low and this is diagnostic to identify the die. BB Die State II, with the reverse rotated a few degrees counterclockwise from normal coin alignment. PCGS# 40101. NGC ID: 24XD.
