France. 1725-D Louis d’Or. Lyon Mint. Gadoury-339, Breen-310. Type II, Long Palms. MS-65 (PCGS). One of the most stunning surviving specimens of this design type extant. Satiny luster dominates both sides, with luxuriously frosty medium yellow gold surfaces. Well struck and well centered, nearly pristine, with just a short adjustment mark surviving at the tip of the portrait bust. A warmly beautiful example of the design type. Breen called this "ex. Rare, one reported" in relationship to its rarity among the treasure of Le Chameau, but none were in the Ford assemblage or the 1971 Parke-Bernet sale. PCGS# 436681. From the Sydney F. Martin Collection. Earlier ex John Agre and Dave Wnuck (Coin Rarities Online), via Mike Wierzba, August 2007.
