Obverse: Bare head right; Reverse: Interior view of the Gallery of Versailles, in which three ambassadors from Siam bow right before Louis XIV, seated facing them to right. Quite dazzling and extremely elegant, this issue from the vast output of medals celebrating various events and accomplishments during the lengthy reign of the French "sun king" is fairly RARE in its association with the East. Seemingly never encountered in such a lofty state of preservation, it is one of the earlier medals that connects the East and the West, marking the 1686 reception of Siams ambassadors to the palace, and should be highly sought after as such. Incorrectly labeled on the holder as Divo-215.
