This lovely survivor is an fantastic looking example of the last hand-hammered Oban type produced in Japan. The crenellations on the obverse are evenly spaced in five columns. The Kiri crest stamps that depict a Paulownia flower are bold with crisp details, and can be linked to the subsequent machine made Type II. The ink signature, Goto Tenjo the hereditary controllers of the Kinza (gold mint), though tastefully touched up has been re-inked displaying a slightly dull profile in those areas. The remaining original ink offers the typical characteristics of being glossy with a slight iridescent sheen near the edges. The obverse fields offer a satiny appearance with plenty remaining luster with lovely sunset hued patina in the peripheries thats complemented by a faint iridescent hues. The reverse exhibits naturally rough surface texture with boldly applied stamps and displays areas of rich dusky coloration near the edges. These hand made issues compared to the machine struck types appear on the market with much less frequency and should be considered very desirable as a type.With Japanese Numismatic Dealer Association Certificate # 38597 and fitted wood presentation case. </em>
