</em>(t) CHINA. Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Victoria Silver Medal, ND (ca. 1912). ABOUT UNCIRCULATED.Obverse: Flag of the Republic of China encircled by characters; Reverse: Chinese inscription meaning "Directors Badge", further encircled by English legend. A VERY RARE medal from the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Australia, this piece provides a unique historical look at the relations between Australia and China. The medal itself displays handsome toning, and lovely reflectivity, with only limited evidence of handling. A piece that should capture much attention, as it is one of the more unique offerings in our entire Hong Kong sale. The Chinese Chamber of Commerce sought to protect the interests of Chinese immigrants in Australia. Formed in Melbourne in 1912, it sent a delegate to represent Chinese-Australians at the opening of the first Chinese Parliament in Peking. With branches in Melbourne and Sydney, the Chamber of Commerce maintained close contact with the Republic of China until the beginning of the Warlord Era in China. </em>
