GREAT BRITAIN. 1/2 Sovereign, ND (1544-47). London Mint; mm: pellet-in-annulet. Henry VIII. PCGS AU-53. S-2295; Fr-167; N-1827. Third coinage. Weight: 6.17 gms. Obverse: Henry, holding orb and lis-tipped scepter, seated facing on elaborate throne; Tudor rose below; Reverse: Square-topped coat-of-arms surmounted by crown and with lion and dragon as supporters. Emanating from the final years of the reign of the larger-than-life Tudor monarch, this enticing example radiates with a golden-orange tone, clear features throughout, very little in the way of handling, and an incredibly wholesome and problem-free nature. Fairly RARE as such, and the finer of just two seen at PCGS for the type. To view all items from the Mark and Lottie Salton Collection, click here. From the Mark and Lottie Salton Collection.
