1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 56-n, W-5310. Rarity-1. Camel Head--Overstruck on a 1787 Connecticut Copper, Miller 33.44-W.3--VF-25 (PCGS). 131.8 grains. 29.4 mm. Pleasing light brown with smooth glossy surfaces. Another exceptionally bold overstrike on a 1787 Connecticut, with the word CONNEC as bold under the plow as CAESAREA is opposite it. ET LIB and UNUM are equally sharp on the reverse, with a complete clear 1787 date upside down above the shield. A short planchet crack is present just left of the tip of the shield. The edge has been filed in areas, giving the rim a beveled appearance. One of the more impressive Camel Head vs. Connecticut matchups youre apt to see. PCGS# 767837. From the Sydney F. Martin Collection. Earlier from our (Coin Galleries) sale of February 2003, lot 968.
