1811/10 Capped Bust Half Dollar. O-101. Rarity-1. Punctuated Date. MS-63 (PCGS). CAC. Offered here is a truly exceptional representative of this popular overdate Capped Bust half dollar. Lustrous silver surfaces display amber, teal and lilac iridescence. The fields are satiny and undisturbed on both sides. This silken luster is amplified atop the devices, further collecting within the well defined recesses. While still sharp, the peripheries exhibit signs of a later die state that should not be confused with a striking deficiency. There are two distinct overdate varieties for the 1811 Capped Bust half dollar issue, both sharing the same obverse die. While the Overton-102 variety is moderately scarcer, it represents the second employment of this die, often resulting in imprecise definition and reduced eye appeal. This lovely Choice Mint State example of the Overton-101 variety is very desirable and should attract strong bids when it crosses the auction block. It sits just outside of the Condition Census, which tops out at MS-64+. PCGS# 6099. NGC ID: 24EV.
