1845-D Liberty Head Quarter Eagle. Winter 6-J, the only known dies. AU-53 (PCGS). Lovely golden-honey surfaces exhibit tinges of pale olive and more vivid pinkish-rose. Pleasingly bold overall, a touch of softness to the central high points is characteristic of the issue and hardly worth mentioning. Abundant frosty luster remains, both sides uncommonly free of sizable or otherwise singularly mentionable marks for a pre-Civil War era Southern gold coin at the assigned grade level. An enticing offering for the advanced specialist that is sure to see spirited bidding.<p>Only a single die variety is known for this issue, the reverse die of which is a holdover from the previous year where it was used in the scarce pairing now known as Winter 5-J for the 1844-D quarter eagle. PCGS# 7738. NGC ID: 25GX.
