Fr. 1133-A. 1918 $1000 Federal Reserve Note. Boston. PMG Very Fine 30. A monumental high denomination large size offering and one of the highlight of The Boston Proper Collection. This 1918 $1000 Federal Reserve Note on the Boston district is just the fifth known note for the catalog number. One note is forever unavailable to the collecting community which is the serial number A16149A piece that is held by the Smithsonian Institution. This is essentially the highest denomination still legal tender large size note that is collectible as $5000 and $10,000 notes are unknown in private hands. The last Boston $1000 Federal Reserve Note to sell at public auction was a PMG Choice Fine 15 graded note which saw aggressive bidding in a August 2019 sale and ultimately realized $18,000. This certainly superior note should easily eclipse that figure. Founding father Alexander Hamiltons stately portrait is found at center on the face while bold 1000 counters are prominently displayed in the corners. On the reverse our national bird with wings spread proudly is seen at center flanked by large denominational counters. PMG comments "Minor Restoration." PMG Pop 2/None Finer.
From the Boston Proper Collection.
