PA-146. Pennsylvania. March 20, 1771. 5 Shillings. PMG Very Fine 30. Francis Hopkinson Signature. No. 5878. Plate B. Signed by Francis Hopkinson, Robert Strettell Jones, and William Fisher. Imprint of David Hall and William Sellers, 1771. Boldly printed in red and black inks. PMG notes Splits. Francis Hopkinson was a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and his signature on currency tends to add roughly $1,000 to its value. Much scarcer than the commonly seen John Hart and John Morton notes. This is the first five shilling example signed by Hopkinson that we have sold in some fifteen years.
