Original Philadelphia Mint Cloth Bag for $5,000 Worth of 1928 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles. 6.5 inches x 14 inches. A heavy canvas bag printed on the front: No. 91 / $5,000 / DOUBLE EAGLES / U.S. MINT / PHILADELPHIA / 1928. The number 91 indicates that this bag was part of the Mints 91st delivery of double eagles from the coiner that year. It allowed for the tracing of the coins in this delivery should any problems be discovered during the Special Assay. Nicely preserved with only a few trivial micro-scuffs to the canvas, short split on the front near the top, expected fraying along the upper edges from when the bag was first opened. Thee are no significant stains or other signs of discoloring. An outstanding display piece, or an interesting go with for inclusion in a collection of Saint-Gaudens $20s.
