A very large, heavy and imposing gold medal awarded to Paul A. Volcker in 1984 by the American Iron and Steel Institute, "For Distinguished Service in Promoting Freedoms Causes."<p>The obverse features the bust of Benjamin F. Fairless with the Steelmark logo at the lower right. Fairless served as president and later CEO and chairman of U.S. Steel, the largest steel corporation in the United States from 1938 to 1955. His work was instrumental in helping to break steel production bottlenecks in the United States during World War II. He also served as president of the American Iron and Steel Institute until his death in 1962.<p>The reverse shows an upraised arm holding a bowl with a flame above at center; the U.S. Capitol and a steel plant in the background. The date "1984" and inscription to Paul A. Volcker appear at the bottom.<p>Accompanied by the original black presentation case. This impressive medal is certain to elicit considerable interest.
