1859 (1859-1904) Washington Cabinet Medal. By Anthony C. Paquet. Musante GW-240, Baker-325C, Julian MT-22. Bronze. MS-66 RB PL (NGC). 21 mm. A glorious example of this perennially popular Washington medallic type. Prooflike in the fields, the motifs are more satiny in texture, and all areas retain abundant mint color in vivid pinkish-orange. Lightly toned, as well, we note cobalt blue highlights to dominant iridescent brown patina. Sharply struck and virtually blemish free. Per R.W. Julian, the United States Mint at Philadelphia made 258 bronze impressions from these dies between 1859 and 1904.
