1881年香港上海汇丰银行5元注销票，纸角经裁剪，编号16358，加盖注销，本版别于1880鳄1881年初次面世，1881及1882年初版未有以机印形式印上署名，均有两名签署人于左下及右下手签作实，如留心可发现签署人职称由” Acct” (Accountant) 「会计师」及” Manager”「司理」改至“Accountant”「会计师」及“Chief Manager”「总司理」。大多编者在研究及编纂有关1900年前香港纸钞时都会遇到同一难题，就是存世量低，难以考据，大多人都会参考Joe Cribb于1986年为汇丰银行所著之《汇丰银行钱币集藏》(“Money in the bank”)，Cribb曾任大英博物馆钱币及奖章部的主管，并约十年前退休，此书并非银行纸钞目录，而是银行所收藏纸钞之目录，所以除特别注明外，所有书中之插图皆是银行持有的藏品。本品评PMG 20，首发年份，本版别发行期极短，本钞虽纸角经裁剪，但以存世140年而言，可谓保存相当得宜，Pick未有记录1881年版别，温金源图录标注为「极为罕见」，斯宾克中国于过去十年间曾有数项此系列之成交纪录，分别为2013年1月拍卖会以港币108,000元售出AVF品相之1884年5元，2014年1月拍卖会以港币456000元售出EF品相之1884年5元，及2017年1月拍卖会以港币456,000元售出VG品相之1882年5元，切勿错过入手本钞之黄金机会!。 The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, $5, cancelled, cut corners, 1.12.1881, serial number 163582, green, orange $5 5$ at centre, handsigned signatory titles "Acct" and "Chief Manager" at lower left and right, CANCELLED overstamped twice on the obverse and reverse, reverse red, Bank arms at centre,Of this new type introduced in 1880 or by 1881, the initial issue of1881 and 1882 bear no printed signatures. Each note is to be hand-signed by two different signatories. At the same time the titles changed from "Acct" (Accountant) and "Manager" to "Accountant" and "Chief Manager".The problem thus far for cataloguers for understanding and cataloguing the early classic period (pre-1900) Hong Kong notes is that so few have survived. Most cataloguers have used the wonderful book "Money in the Bank", written for the HSBC in 1986 by Joe Cribb, who then became the Keeper (head) of the Department of Coins & Medals at the British Museumand retired about ten years ago. As this book is not a catalogue of the Banks notes but rather a catalogue of the notes in the Bankscollection, the pieces illustrated in "Money in the Bank" -- with a fewexceptions carefully mentioned -- are all examples held by the Bank.(Pick unlisted), PMG 20 Very Fine (Cancelled, Annotations). The first date of issue for this short lived series. Although the note has been cut cancelled, the state is preservation is marvellous considering its age of 140 years. The 1881 date is unrecorded in Pick and simply listed as Extremely Rare by K.N.Boon. A wonderful opportunity to acquire a rare type with a very important date!
