(t) CHINA. Brass Yuan Pattern, 1985. PROOF. PAN-28A; Chang-pg. 28 # 7. Weight: 12.7 gms. Authorized mintage: 1,000 with an estimated survival rate of less than 100. This unassuming and seemingly common issue is in fact quite the opposite with less than 100 examples thought to have survived. An EXTREMELY RARE issue, the design features are identical to the 1983 and 1984 Brass One Yuans that made it to full production with mintages of about 30,000 each. However, full on production for this date never came to fruition and its status as a special issue from the highly collected Panda series has been solidified. This seldom encountered issue was clearly struck to the same high standards normally associated with the modern commemorative coins exhibiting crisp frosty intricate design features with hard flashy mirrored surfaces. Housed in its original card board holder of issue from the Shanghai Mint light mottled brassy patina graces the surfaces. A few areas of haziness are noticed in the protected areas of the obverse design along with numerous small copper spots in the fields, this handsome and heavily sought after Panda issue offers a pleasing appearance with much originality.
