The design on the front is entitled "Electricity Presenting Light to the World", which was engraved by G.F.C. Smillie from a painting done by Walter Shirlaw. The back of the note depicts Union Generals Ulysses S. Grant and Philip Sheridan at opposite ends. The portraits were engraved by Lorenzo J. Hatch. At center is an allegorical winged woman over a "V" counter, with "United States" above. The paper is blast white and accentuates the darkly inked design very well. Vivid red and blue security threads are readily noticed upon inspection. Always in demand at this grade level. PMG comments "Minor Restoration."
