1855-C Gold Dollar. Type II. Winter-2. AU-55 (NGC). Bright yellow-gold with considerable luster remaining. Poorly struck as typical for the date, but on this example the central details of the reverse are rather well executed, which seems to be more characteristic of this second die pair than the first. Dies are heavily clashed, and the obverse die appears rather worn. The second lowest mintage of the Type II gold dollar series, and the only Charlotte Mint coin among them. Popular as such.
