(m.m.) ., plume-topped oval garnished shield, dividing cypher, 6.00g, 8h, m.m. plume (Sharp C2/4; Brooker 455 same dies; North 2222; Spink 2788), attractively round and well struck-up, a pleasing cabinet tone overlying original surfaces, good very fine, rare thus, and with an excellent pedigree Provenance Spink 263, 24 September 2019, lot 264 {Zimmermann}, SNC, February 1981, no. 863 - "very rare, choice E.F-F.D.C" - £1,500 - wherein the provenance erroneously confused with lot 1115 of the Ryan sale, and further confounded by the transcription of the pedigree for lot 1113 (type 1b) R C Lockett, Part II, Glendining, 11-17 October 1956, lot 2307 - in proof-like state, extremely rare - £52.0.0 V M Brand, collection part-dispersed by Baldwin, 1935 T Bliss, Sothebys, 22-24 March 1916, lot 376 - "an extremely fine and round piece, and rare in this state - £8.5.0 (Brand) H Montagu, Third Portion, Sothebys, 13 November 1896, lot 333, fine, a very round and well struck coin, probably the work of Briot - £1.2.0 (Spink)
