AEGINA. AR Stater (12.21 gms), ca. 480-457 B.C. NGC Ch VF, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 3/5. Countermarks. HGC-6, 435; SNG Cop-507. Obverse: Sea turtle, with head in profile, "trefoil" collar, and "T-back" pelleted design on shell; Reverse: Thick skew pattern within incuse square. This early Greek Stater features the ever popular sea turtle design, with a fair number of countermarks on the shell. About as well struck as this type comes.
