MACEDON. Kingdom of Macedon. Demetrios Poliorketes, 306-283 B.C. AR Tetradrachm (17.20 gms), Corinth Mint, ca. 304/3-290 B.C. NGC Ch EF, Strike: 3/5 Surface: 2/5. Scratches. Pr-668. In the name and types of Alexander III the Great. Obverse: Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin; Reverse: Zeus seated left on throne, holding eagle and scepter; star in left field; below throne, monogram below strut. This attractive, early posthumous Alexander issue features a beautiful peacock tone in the recessed areas of the design. Despite a somewhat faded strike, tremendous luster remains. Some minor--and rather inconsequential--scratches are noted on the reverse.
