ITALY. Bruttium. Terina. AR Stater (7.58 gms), ca. 420-400 B.C. NGC Ch F, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 2/5. Fine Style. Scratches. HGC-1, 1756; HN Italy-2629. Obverse: Head of Terina right, with hair in sphendone; Reverse: Nike seated left on plinth, holding out hand upon which a small bird alights. A RARE type, this example struck in the classical style is supremely beautiful owning to the strong strike that is well centered. This example saw widespread circulation in the ancient world and the surfaces reflect that fact as they bear much wear and are granular in nature. Some scratches are present on the obverse, but even still with a coin as scarce as this, examples in any condition command a premium.
