RUSSIA. 3 Rubles, 1844-CNB. St. Petersburg Mint. Nicholas I. PCGS AU-58. Fr-160; KM-C-177; Bit-90. Struck in Platinum. Struck very nicely, which is not always the case given the strength of platinum, the sharp details spring from the cool steely colored surfaces. Despite its presence in an about uncirculated holder, finding any evidence of wearing is almost impossible. Certainly one of the finest examples of Russian platinum surviving, this beauty from the immensely popular series should find a warm place in the heart of many bidders. From the Mark and Lottie Salton Collection.
