POLAND. Danzig. Ducat, 1673-DL. Danzig Mint. Michael Korybut. PCGS MS-62. Fr-32; KM-71.2; H-C-2383 (R1); Kop-7682 (R5); Gum-1980. Mintmasters initials are for Daniel Lesse, who served at the Danzig mint from 1656-1685. A RARE later issue from the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, this example is tied for the finest graded example by PCGS with one other example, and no NGC example being better. With only 12 examples listed between the PCGS and NGC population survey, this examples scarcity is immediately evident. The intricately designed portrait and arms of Danzig are well struck and centered on the thin planchet. Michael Korybut only reigned for 4 years, so his numismatic issues are all treasures. A more muted honey golden tone is present on the surfaces, with just a touch of brightness. Beautiful in all respects and well deserving of a bid, this piece will captivate as one of the premier examples of an always in demand series. From the Mark and Lottie Salton Collection.
