VERY FINE.Shipping invoice for one keg containing 5,000 Mexican Dollars, to Canton, China, on the ship "Liberty", signed June 25th, 1835 in Philadelphia. An interesting piece of the coin market in China at the time as many types were brought in from out of the country and used as "Trade Coinage". A note written by the captain of the ship on October 5th, 1835 appears to be the arrival release of the shipment once in port to a John F. Lewis. <p><p><em>The Mexican 8 Reales and Peso became the standard coin throughout much of the world, including China. In fact, during the main trading period, up to or possibly more than 40% of the silver from Mexico and Peru were shipped to China for trading of silk and spices. The weight and size became the standard for the 7 Mace 2 Candareens (Dollar), and each minor based on that same scale. Some could even make a direct link to the coin styling of the Republic era silver coins, Yuan Shih-kai for example, to those of the early Spanish silver with the busts of their kings. </em>
