A sensational offering for Confederate Bond collectors, as all reported issued examples of this type were reportedly destroyed before the evacuation of Richmond due to advancing Federal troops. However, we cannot authenticate the signer/provenance of this piece. It appears this note was signed by a "Geo(rge) Canton", and we cannot locate any records for him with the Confederate Treasury. It is seen with a later 1865 date, although this series was issued much earlier in 1863. Therefore, this item is being sold as is, with no returns offered. From the Q. David Bowers Collection.
