1853 Round 25 Cents. BG-214. Rarity-7-. Liberty Head. MS-62 (PCGS). A beautiful semi-prooflike example with wisps of pale rose iridescence to otherwise honey-gold surfaces. Laminations on the reverse are as made and serve as useful identifiers for this significant rarity. From the firm of Frontier, Deviercy & Co., active in San Francisco 1853 to 1864, and the successors to Joseph Bros., though only in their minting business. BG-214 has a crudely reeded edge with a gold-plated planchet over a lesser karat gold core. PCGS suggests that just 10 to 14 examples of this elusive issue can be accounted for today. Take a good look at this rarity, as it may very well be the only market offering of BG-214 for quite some time. From the Oregon Collection.
