1847 Liberty Seated Silver Dollar. OC-2. Rarity-1. MS-62 (NGC). Brilliant apart from subtle champagne-gold highlights, this is a boldly struck example with a pleasing satin texture. The vast majority of survivors from the relatively generous mintage of 140,750 pieces are worn to one degree or another, indicative of extensive commercial use. Like all silver dollar issues from the 1840s, the 1847 is elusive even at the lowest reaches of Mint State. The present example represents an important bidding opportunity for type collectors as well as silver dollar enthusiasts.
