Fr. 247. 1896 $2 Silver Certificate. PMG Superb Gem Uncirculated 67 EPQ. A show-stopper of a note with bold color throughout and broad margins all around. The few unprinted areas in this complex design are clean and bright. It would be difficult to find a more attractive example. This entry in the prized "Educational" note series offers an exceptionally beautiful design. The face features the thoughtfully executed vignette, Science Presenting Steam and Electricity to Commerce and Manufacture, an allegorical scene and one of the finest of the era. The reverse of the note displays Robert Fulton and Samuel F.B. Morse, both remembered for their important contributions to science and technology and fitting for the motif of the note. This note almost deserves to be framed and mounted on the wall as a work of art, bringing reminiscence to a time when banknotes of the era represented the Gilded Age, and engravers poured their hearts into designing such masterpieces. Seldom do notes of this caliber trade hands, as Gems such as this piece are tightly held onto. This example will be hotly contested once the bidding begins, so prepare for a well fought battle to bring this treasure home. A prize for the condition rarity enthusiast. PMG Pop 4/None Finer.
