1797 (post-1878) John Adams Indian Peace Medal. The Only Size. By Moritz Furst and John Reich. Julian IP-1. Bronze. Second Reverse. MS-64 BN (NGC). 51 mm. Beautiful orange-brown patina with satiny surfaces and full striking detail. Wisps of light carbon are a bit more prevalent on the reverse, yet were it not for these trivial blemishes this overall smooth-looking piece would certainly have secured a fell Gem Mint State grade from NGC. The original dies for this issue were cut by Moritz Furst and John Reich, though neither die was signed. In fact, this obverse is believed to be the only die by Furst that he did not sign. This example was struck after 1878, using the replacement reverse die believed to have been cut around that time. It can be distinguished by the closer proximity of the pipe to the P of PEACE.
