1721 (ca. 1880-1898) Guadeloupe Fortified Medal. Paris Mint Restrike. Betts-148, Page-Divo 38. Silver. MS-62 (NGC). 41 mm. Edge marked (cornucopia). Light silver-gray patina with wisps of pale gold iridescence and, in the protected areas around many of the design elements, steely-gray highlights. The strike is boldly to sharply executed and, while there are no sizeable marks, wispy hairlines are evident to explain the MS-62 grade. An elusive Paris Mint production, Betts-148 was represented in our (Stacks) Ford XIII sale by just a single bronze example; silver strikings of any era are great rarities.
