Qing Dynasty: Xie Tai Feng, Shanghai, silver sycee for 50 taels, Xin Fuand Shicharacters at top left and top right respectively, weighs 1828.3g,Zhong Qian AU55, # 82022949, superb toning, rarely seen and not to missed!In 1292, Shanghai officially became a county. Before this, it was under the jurisdiction of Huating County and Songjiang Prefecture from the Tang to Yuan Dynasties. Textile industry was well developed in Shanghai during Ming and Qing dynasties. In 1843, the "Nanjing Treaty" was signed and Shanghai was designated as one of the five treaty ports. After the concession was opened, the fifty-two tael silver ingots struck by banks and private banks within the concession area of Beishi City were called "Yichengxin", which means new ingots from foreign settlement. Its mintage specifications, shape and fineness are unified, and the ingot surface is often marked with the name of the silver furnace, the furnace number and characters "Shanghai".This lot is a 50 taels silver ingot from Xietaifeng in Shanghai, with Chinese characters "Shi" and "Xinfu", weight 1828.3g, casted by the tenth furnace from Xietaifeng. Overstamped with the name of the furnace maker Xinfu which is extremely rare. The ingot surface is with a weak stamp "Gong" representing the official public assayers. The shape of the ingot is beautiful, with original lustre, well preserved, graded Zhong Qian AU55.
