CHINA. Western Han Dynasty. Gold-Inlaid "Key Money" Knife Valued at 5000 Units, ND (A.D. 7-23). The Rebel Wang Mang. Certified "85" by GBCA. Hartill-9.12; FD-458. Dimensions: 74.6mm x 28.5mm; Weight: 25.9 gms. Key-shaped knife, with seal script on obverse; on bow: "Yi Dao" (one knife) in gold inlay; on blade: "Ping Wu Qian" (worth five thousand); blank on reverse. Deep forest green patina lies in the recesses, while the higher points present more of a brown-brick red color. The gold inlay is still rather brilliant. Overall, an incredible and important survivor, and a vital link that remains VERY RARE within early Chinese numismatics.
