Rev: Inscription TO / / BY RESOLUTION OF / THE / KENTUCKY / LEGISLATURE / FEB.11th. 1860 within an oak and laurel wreath. Like the much earlier Pennsylvania State U.S. Mint medal, this was authorized by the states legislature as a gesture towards the participants in the battle who came from Kentucky. Six of the original Kentucky sailors were still alive when this medal was issued 47 years after the battle.
